Beginners Course | 6 weeks
Discover + Integrate
Arrive
As you begin or return to yoga, we encourage you to join our beginners course. Our method is Iyengar yoga – a methodical and sequential course of study that will help you make yoga an integral part of your life.
This course is specifically designed for those who are new and returning to yoga and covers:
Yoga postures to stretch and strengthen your body
Deep relaxation for both your body and mind
Simple breathing techniques to strengthen and balance your nervous system
Level 1 | Beginning
Foundations + Developing
Learn the alphabet
For students who are new to yoga, the Foundations classes provide an introduction and basic understanding of the underpinning footprints of Iyengar yoga. Students will receive step by step instructions and work on developing alignment, strength, stability and balance through the practice of asana – yoga poses.
In the Level 1 Developing classes, we learn new asanas and focus on refining and deepening our understanding of what is already known. We focus on learning foundations to establish a practice and learn how to navigate our internal and external daily conditions.
We encourage students to remain at this level for a minimum of 6 months, however some students may choose to stay for longer, up to 2 or 3 years, as we aim to develop a steady and intelligent yoga practice.
Level 2 | Experienced
Intensify + Diversify
Add some punctuation
This class focuses on helping students grow a meaningful and consistent individual yoga practice building on asanas used, refining techniques, expanding awareness using timing, and deepening the experience of inner stillness using props intelligently. At this level students will learn about sequencing, back bends, inversions (establishing a steady head and shoulder stand practice) and how to manage specific injuries or conditions. We recommend students work at this level for a few years before considering the Level 3 class.
Level 3 | Advanced
Self-study + Reflection
Express yourself
In this class, yoga is a moving meditation and a way of life - students embark on a journey of self-study and reflection with established, self-directed daily Iyengar Yoga practice. Students practise more sophisticated and demanding asanas, hold poses for longer periods and work at a subtle and profound level. Our advanced students have a strong home practice, read yogic texts and regularly attend workshops and intensives to deepen and progress their understanding and practice. Prior assessment from our teachers is required before joining this class.
Open to all levels
All Levels Yoga Class
These classes are appropriate for Level 1 through to experienced students. Our skilled teachers and small group classes allows us to accommodate all levels and focus on the sequence and use of props to meet you where you are.
Slow Paced Class
All Levels Yoga Class
Sequences and postures are used to release tension and tightness in the body. Moving at a slower pace and taking longer holds gives the muscles and the mind time and space to deeply unravel and release. Fresh awareness is possible.
Often taught with modifications and the use of props to accommodate students who are working with mild injury or health conditions, or those who are not very flexible. It's also a wonderful class for those wishing to study the techniques of Iyengar yoga at at slower pace.
Yoga for Blokes
Men are encouraged to attend all classes from beginners to advanced. The Yoga for Blokes class focusses on men’s health to support you to stay physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy and to enjoy life and thrive at all ages and stages. It’s a slower class – for guys of all abilities wanting to build strength, resilience, and inner focus.
In studio practice
Sometimes it’s easier to practice together in the serene environment of the studio and enjoy your space, follow your own sequence. This class is not led by a teacher but each student is self-guided by their own wealth of inner knowing. Stretch in your own way, in your own timing, together.
Private Class
Access personalised one-on-one attention, guidance, and instruction from our IYA certified yoga teachers (1) with a private yoga class. Private classes are tailored to your individual needs and are ideal for brand new students who are inquisitive and want a deeper understanding of Iyengar yoga, students who need help to manage an injury or chronic health condition or experienced practitioner looking to deepen your understanding and practice. Sessions run for 1 – 2 hours depending on your needs.
(1) Our teachers are certified or ongoing certification through Iyengar Yoga Australia (IYA) which offers a rigourous certification process ensuring that our teachers meet the standard of practice and are teaching appropriately for the level.
Therapy Class
For those who have an injury, recovering from a serious condition or from illness, this class is a pathway from private classes and remedial massage to return to regular class attendance. The small group classes have a maximum of 4 students and are run by Kellie with the assistance from a teacher, so each student is given the support they need. Asanas are modified using props and our bodies intelligence.
