Yoga in Varanasi

I am delighted to be partnering with Katrina from Big Sista Adventures to offer this 7 night Iyengar yoga adventure into the spiritual heart of India for a week of yoga, meditation, Yoga Sutras and cultural exploration. Each day will be filled with yoga and small group tours to local temples, museums and learning centres.

The Yoga Retreat

  • Arrive Sunday 25 October – retreat commences with an afternoon restorative class and a group meal.

  • Depart Sunday 1 November – retreat concludes following our morning practice.

The Accomodation

We will stay together in a peaceful, humble Ashram on the banks of the holy Ganges River. The Ashram is light and spacious with common sitting and dining areas. The rooms are basic, clean and comfortable and each has a private bathroom. The Ashram is beautifully maintained throughout and a small library, containing Yoga books from many schools of thought is available for your use.

Daily brunch, includes delicious home made yogurt, all the usual Indian favourites and a few new ones too. Fresh fruit and herbal teas are available throughout the day. Some other meals and light refreshments will also be included. There is a cook in the ashram and there are also several restaurant options close by.

About Varanasi

Varanasi is steeped in tradition and yoga is taught across the city in Shalas of all sizes. Morning practices are a common site with a larger public practice held each day at Assi Ghat, the steps to the River.

Pilgrims come fo Varanasi from all over to worship and bathe in the Ganges River - the most sacred of Indian rivers and a goddess in her own right, she has been a place of worship and pilgrimage for millennia.

Ayurveda, Sanskrit, classical music and dance are all taught and practiced here. Sounds of chanting, temple bells and the cacophony of everyday life are never far away. Varanasi is also home to the Benares Hindu University and has a long association with the study of Indic thought and Buddhist studies.

Varanasi holds the hopes, dreams, tears and prayers of the countless who have made pilgrimages here over the ages. It’s palpable. For many this is the trip of a life time!
